Risk analysis

Risk Analysis is a methodology that assesses potential health and/or environmental risk to human or environmental receptors near contaminated areas, considering all necessary actions such that the receptor will not come into contact with the polluting substances.

The risk analysis, through the reconstruction of the “conceptual site model” aims to calculate the health risk according to the degree of exposure and daily consumption dosage of a certain polluting agent (chemical intake); to calculate the risk for the stratum and surface waters due to the contamination of soil and subsurface waters and the reclamation objectives of contaminated sites, also through risk management and reclamation objectives.

Phases

  • Retrieval and analysis of documents;
  • Site visit;
  • Definition of Environmental Matrices;
  • Tabular comparison between Level I Risk Analysis and Level II Risk Analysis;
  • Calculation of the concentrations at the conformity point and exposure point and of the acceptable residual concentrations (reclamation target).

Output

  • Definition of the applied methodology;
  • Tabular comparison of the concentrations detected;
  • Reconstruction of the Conceptual Site Model;
  • Entry of the specified site parameters;
  • Risk Estimate and calculation of Specific Acceptability Limits;
  • Indication of any necessary corrective works;
  • Summary tables on the risks associated with the receptors.
